Job Description:
General Statement Of Duties:
Performs manual and unskilled labor in the maintenance of natural areas and park grounds and paths; does job-related work as required.
Distinguishing Features Of The Class:
An employee in this classification performs unskilled labor and does not operate heavy equipment.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Park Program Manager, although the incumbent may perform work under the lead of other Park Services staff.
Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES PERFORMED:

) Performs general maintenance, which includes hand mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, planning and watering.
Performs vegetation, garbage, debris and litter removal from natural areas and park grounds.
Assists in minor maintenance and repair of park site amenities, such as graffiti removal.
Provides patrol and survey assistance in natural areas with Natural Resource staff.
Prepares and maintains native plantings or related work sites.
Reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
Assists in District wide or Parks large events including setting up and taking down portable tents, moving heavy event equipment, setting up event systems with other staff.
Reports citizen concerns; reports any unusual park condition or safety issues to supervisor.
Performs other job-related duties or tasks as required.

Qualifications:
Knowledge:
Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in park maintenance and repair; safety practices and precautions in performing responsibilities.
Skills:
The operation of hand tools and equipment used in performing duties.
Abilities:
Perform heavy, repetitive, manual labor; work in adverse weather conditions; understand and follow oral and written instructions; deal courteously and tactfully with the public; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the general public.
Physical Demands Of The Position:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, kneel, reach, and stoop, often in conjunction with reaching for or manipulating objects.
The position requires the employee carry and use a leaf blower, weed brusher or manual string trimmer for extended periods of time.
The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials such as bags, small equipment, string trimmer, etc weighing up to 20 pounds often, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and seldom up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Manual dexterity and coordination, including but not limited to grasping and squeezing, are required over 75% of the work period.
The duties of the position involve standing for the vast majority of the work period.
The duties of this position are most always performed outside, which means exposure to heat in summer and cold in winter is likely.
Exposure to noise is moderate, and at times requires the use of ear protection while using noise-producing equipment.

Experience And Training:
Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Valid driver's license; safe driving record; possession of or ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification.
Must be 18 years old to operate necessary equipment.
Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment.
